Pontiac unveiled its latest concept in Detroit. Its a two-seat convertible roadster called the Solstice. A coupe version were also unveiled, in which the hood of the coupe slope to the rear. This car is designed for the young crowd, with the price range in the low $20,000. The engine that powers the roadster is a rear-wheel-drive 2.2-liter DOHC supercharged EcoTec four-cylinder engine that generate up to 240 horsepower with premium fuel. The Solstice is made up of parts readily available from other GM models. Some of the parts used includes the corvette's GM T56 6-speed manual transmission, off-the-shelf supercharger, rack-and-pinion steering system from the Subaru WRX, and all-aluminum independent rear suspension from GMs mid-size crossover SUV family. By using parts from other vehicles, it greatly reduces the manufacturing cost of the Solstice.
